FAQs - Staying at our cottages

We have a baby in our party.  Are you able to provide a cot and highchair?

Yes, in the Byre we have a travel cot or full size cot depending on age and a highchair which can be provided at no extra charge. Please request on booking.  Please note however, we do not supply bedding for the cot.

Yes, in The Shippon babies and toddlers are most welcome. A cot, highchair, bath, toiletries, stairgate, sterilizers, and toys are provided for your use. Please request on booking and please note we don't provide bedding for the cot.

Do we need to bring any bed linen?

No, bed linen, towels and kitchen tea towels are all provided free of charge and are changed weekly.

Do we need to bring washing up liquid etc?

All our cottages are equipped with Ecover cleaning products, bin bags, clingfilm etc.

My husband is allergic to feathers, do you have synthetic pillows and duvets?

Yes, all our cottages have synthetic duvets and pillows.

Is it possible to book a babysitter during our stay?

This is possible but needs to be booked on arrival to ensure availability.

I would like to order some groceries for our stay.

Whilst we do not offer a grocery service, Asda, Sainsburys and Tesco on line will deliver to Mennabroom and we are more than happy to see your shopping in for you. Please advise on delivery details.

We are arriving after a long journey is it possible to eat somewhere locally?

Yes, we have a very good pub in the next village of St. Neot. Should you wish to eat on site, meals can be provided in the farmhouse or delivered to your door, cooked and ready to eat by prior arrangement.

We have booked a short break in November, can you tell me what heating you have?

All our cottages have central heating.  In the sitting rooms in The Shippon, The Tallet and The Byre are wood burners.  The first basket of logs is provided free of charge and subsequent baskets for a small charge.

I need to stay in contact by mobile, what mobile networks are available?

Most networks are available, though it may mean moving around to get a good reception.  Our telephone is a private line, though of course can be used in emergencies.  WIFI is free and is available in all the cottages.

I see the water is supplied via a borehole, is it safe?

Yes.  It is filtered four times (including ultra violet) and subject to annual assays by the local authority.  If you are used to drinking chlorinated tap water you may find it tastes a little peaty at first, but rest assured that it is healthy and pure.

I see from the website, Mennabroom is surrounded by some 40 acres, are we able to access it?

Yes, apart from two private gardens around the farmhouse, you can walk around the grounds.  Please close the gates and keep dogs on leads as there may be cattle or sheep around.  There are two deep ponds close to the waterfall and woods through which the River Dewey runs.  Please keep children supervised at all times when visiting these areas.  Children are most welcome to play ball games etc. on the large lawned area opposite the cottage entrances. On this lawned area there are picnic tables and a communal barbeque.  A gas barbeque is also available for hire.

What about a washing machine and drying facilities?

The Tallet has its own washing machine and tumble dryer in the utility room.  The Shippon and The Byre have a dishwasher instead and are able to use the washing machines in the laundry room adjacent to the farmhouse, along with tumble dryers.  There is a rotary washing line available for all the cottages to use on the lawned area.
